THE HISTORY OF NEW FELLOWSHIP BAPTIST CHURCH
In April of 1990, seven Deacons, among a group of Christians, had been meeting for several months trying to find the path that the Lord would have them follow. These seven men were Reginald Caldwell, Tyrone Herndon, George Horton, Joseph Jacobs, Calvin Pierce, James Westbrooks, and Joseph Yelverton. As the seven Deacons met, six of their wives and two other Christian women formed a prayer group to strengthen the Deacons and to find the path the Lord wanted them to follow.
New Fellowship Baptist Church was organized for the uplifting of God and adding to the Body of Christ through prayer, Bible study, preaching, teaching, training and outreach. The Constitution and By-Laws were put in place to ensure that the church would be governed by the body of the church.
New Fellowship Baptist Church submitted the Articles of Incorporation for a church on June 29, 1990. On October 2, 1990, the Articles were accepted by the State of Maryland. The Church also became affiliated with the Southern Baptist Association, who helped with Sunday School materials and other items.
On May 5, 1991, Rev. James Dixon, Jr., became the first full-time Pastor of New Fellowship. The church accepted his resignation in June of 1993. On May 22, 1994, our Fourth Anniversary, Deacon George K. Horton preached his initial sermon and received his license from the church to go forth and preach the gospel. In June, 1995, New Fellowship elected Rev. George K. Horton as the second Pastor of New Fellowship.
Proverbs 29:18 indicates “Where there is no vision the people perish” we are thankful for the vision God has given Pastor Horton for this body of believers. The vision clearly is to perfect the existing ministries, and to develop new ministries such as Adult Day Care. Early Learning Center, Youth Summer Camp which includes swimming, softball, etc., a Retreat Center, an Outreach Center for community needs and helps, and to build a new Sanctuary.
In March, 2002, the Pastor and Deacons labored with the vision and set out to locate such a place that would support the vision. In March, 2003, New Fellowship purchased 12 acres of property with dwellings, located at 10400 Tippett Road, Clinton, Maryland. September 2011 marked one year at our new home at 10400 Tippett Road in Clinton, Maryland.
Rev. Joe E. Yelverton, Assistant Pastor was ordained into the gospel ministry on October 1, 2006 and passed on February 10, 2010.
On July 21, 2007 Deacon Joseph Jacobs was elevated to the office Deacon Emeritus after a long illness until his death on November 5, 2007.
The first female minister of New Fellowship, Rev. Patricia A. White was ordained and licensed on October 3, 2009.
Rev. Milford Lockhart of the ministerial staff, former president of the National Woman’s Evangelistic Missionary Conference (NWEMC) departed this life on March 30, 2013.
After serving for 19 years as Pastor, Rev. Dr. George K. Horton resigned on May 31, 2014 and relocated to North Carolina. On May 19, 2014 Rev. Patricia A. White, Assistant Pastor was elected and became the Interim Pastor of New Fellowship Baptist Church until April 9, 2016 when she was installed as Pastor of New Fellowship Baptist Church.
